Vacation Bible School

We thought we'd give VBS at try this year...Liam just made the cut-off as long as a parent stuck around. He was excited about "Crocodile Dock" week. Upon arrival, we checked in and they placed Liam into group "A". (Remember, he loves his alphabet!). He became very excited about the letter "A" and proceeded to sound out the letter...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! The poor gal jumped back thinking Liam was screaming at her...I had to play translator and explain to her that he was just very happy about his group letter, "A"!

Unfortunately, Liam was a bit disappointed in the program. First of all, believe it or not, there were no actual crocodiles there which was probably Mommy's mistake by talking "Crocodile Dock" up so much to spark an interest.

Also, the basic lessons were definitely geared towards older kids. The first lesson was held outside on the grass and since one of Liam's texture aversions is prickly grass this was not a fun idea. He is a good problem solver, however. So when he noticed the nearby "Mt. Sinai" (a pile of sofa cushions), he figured that was the seat meant for him. No big deal, right? Right. Well, that is until Fr. Linh decided to come running and dive head first into the, well, Mt. Sinai. He's such a fun priest...but then after he graced us with his presence and left, well, you know..."Open Season on Mt. Sinai". So throughout the entire lesson, Mommy tried to convince Liam that maybe he could sit and try to listen and leave the climbing to Moses! That is, tried with no avail.

After the first lesson, we headed inside for arts and crafts. Liam actually did quite well with this station. Thank goodness because this station was held in the church while mass was taking place...the only partitions were draped curtains.

Then we headed outside for snack...Liam liked this station. After snack, we headed over to a couple more stations before wrapping things up inside with some songs and prayers.

I wasn't too surprised when Liam decided he didn't want to go back. I think it was a combination of things including the time of day (6:30 - 8:00...Liam's usually in the bath tub by 7 pm), Gandma and Papa were here and we had been busy, busy, busy the week and weekend before, and the program was just a little too advanced for his attention span.

No complaints though...we'll try again next summer!

You don't know if you don't try!!! Yes, give another look at the program next year and see if a year does make a difference.

VBS was hard for Maura too this year. She enjoyed it, but I think she'll LOVE it next year. What a difference a year will make!

Even though you told me this story months ago, I cracked up reading it again today! You are so funny!
